By Lila Barry

Talk to a mother today about diapers, and she immediately thinks of the disposable ones. However, it was not too long ago that all diapers were made of cloth. With advent of disposable diapers came the handy dandy wipes with baby wipes solution. They first came on the scene around the 1970s, and they provided another convenience for mothers.

However, as women became more aware the environment and the chemicals that are used, they wanted to move back to those days of the cloth diaper. There preference was to protect their children from harsh, possible toxic chemicals in the things they were using to clean their child. They also, wanted to protect the environment.

Many people might wonder why a mother would want to go through all of the trouble it takes to make their own solution. After all, there are plenty of product that they could use, and they are always coming out with new ones all of the time. It is a question that only the parent can answer, and many parents do not want to use the commercial one.

In fact, the evidence supports their decision. There are plenty of benefits that encourage it. First, homemade ones are just as convenient as the store bought, and in some cases they may be more convenient. Secondly, when a mother makes them herself, she can make them chemical free, and that is a very big plus.

Since, many people are now environmentally conscious, the option of making the solution seems to be very sound because it helps to cut down on lots of unnecessary garbage that can only pollute the environment more. Homemade wipes can be used again and again.

Mothers also have to think about the various chemicals that may be in the over the counter wipes. When they make their own they are sure that the ingredients used are non toxic, and cannot harm the skin. There is also the economical reason for making them. A lot of money can be saved by using home made ones.

Many households use almost a dozen or more every couple of days, and that can add up to quite an expense. Where the mother may find herself using three to four wipes per change, she could significantly cut that down to two or even one with the homemade ones. That in itself proves to be more economical.

The size of them also causes a problem. Not all babies are the same size, and one size does not fit all. Homemade wipes give mothers better control how many to use. The best benefit of all is controlling what goes into the solution she uses to clean the baby. She does not have to worry about harmful chemicals and other things that might be harmful.

Mothers can feel secure knowing that by making her own baby wipes solution, she is protecting her baby and helping the environment as well. This is because the ingredients that she uses are better than the chemicals in the over the counter products. In the long run, it is a better solution to several problems.
